Tulip Chair, 1955 – 1956. Eero Saarinen. [photo: courtesy of Knoll]
In 1954
Eero Saarinen wanted to eliminate the “FOREST” of legs that supported tables and chairs. The “Tulip” Chair emerged as the solution: a single pedestal supporting the chair and table. The base seems to emerge from the floor levitating the chair and table and eliminating the forest. What a simple idea and executed with such style that we still marvel at Saarinen’s work.
