Design for Everyone?: Design Mysteries Series

Exactly who is everyone?

So what does IKEA mean by design for everyone? I visited their website to see if there was an answer, and there is one.

“We feel good design combines form, function, quality, sustainability at a low price. We call it “Democratic Design” because we believe good home furnishing is for everyone.”

Okay so does everyone include, blind, deaf, mute, paraplegic, quadriplegic, the spastic, the LGBT’s, Asians, European, Indian, African, South American, Central American, Polynesian, Hawaiian, Aleut, Native American, Latino, Straight, Curved, (just being silly) skeptics, optimists, pessimists, conservatives, liberals, libertarian, muses, the……. see it’s hard to include EVERYONE! Everyone is a wonderful idealistic goal and designers should try to include everyone when they are designing, it’s called UNIVERSAL DESIGN……….Design for everyone, maybe it is a DEMOCRATIC DESIGN also?
